your blogger

My name is Ruta Pocius and I’m the regional coordinator of caregiverexchange.ca but that really doesn’t tell you very much. 

It might help you to know that I spent the first ten years of my career as a broadcast journalist asking questions and seeking answers.  Or perhaps it would give you more confidence to know that I spent the decade that followed working in public relations raising awareness about many different issues.  But I suspect what may find most relevant is that I too am a caregiver. 

Although my elderly mother is still very independent, her needs are starting to increase and change, and as time passes I fully expect to be her primary caregiver to whatever extent she may need one. 

As with many things in life, it’s a combination of the aforementioned experiences that have placed me here in the seat of “blogger” for the caregiverexchange.ca.  As I consolidate my official role with my caregiving one, what I’d really like is for you to consider me to be your blogger. 

As your blogger it’s my job to look at the world through the lens of a caregiver – to spend a good chunk of every day staying in tune and on topic with issues that impact you while also looking for information to help you navigate the caregiving landscape.  But more than anything else, as your blogger I hope to provide you with valuable information presented in a welcoming virtual space that validates your contributions and reminds you that are not alone.
