Plan for your 'care-years' now
"Money can't buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.” Truer words have not been spoken. I recently came across this quote by poet Spike Milligan. It popped back into my head while I was reading an article on elder care and income taxes by author Patty Randall in today’s Calgary Herald. On Randall’s website, longtermcareCanada.com she’s described as “a one-woman long-term care campaign out to educate Canadian boomers and young seniors on the urgent need to plan for their care-years…while there is still time.” Her site offers a lot of information about the financial items that need to be considered when planning for elder care. Money can be a touchy, intimidating subject. But no good comes from ignoring financial matters. Read, ask questions and find out what your options are before you need elder care. It may not be the most fun you've ever had but it may help address any anxieties you have about the future, and spare you and your loved ones some difficult times ahead, and that's worth something. Actually, that's worth a lot.
