'Grandparent scam' alert

It’s the ‘grandparent scam', also known as the ‘emergency scam’, and it’s making the rounds here in the South West region. Police are asking caregivers to alert elderly relatives and neighbours so that they don’t get caught off guard by these rotters.

This from the London Police Service scam alert: “The most common scenario involves the fraudster contacting potential victims while posing as a family member or friend in urgent need of cash. The victim believes a family member needs help and then wire transfers the funds, most often to Quebec, Toronto or overseas.”

If you know of someone who may have been approached or victimized, or you’d like more information contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (Phone Busters) at 1-888-495-8501.

So please tell one friend and ask them to tell another friend and... Thanks!
