Getting older and happier

Take heart caregivers, apparently we get happier as we age.

A report in the New York Times today says that there is a marked improvement in our happiness quotient after age 50 and our level of happiness continues to increase until our mid-80s. Researchers aren’t sure why we feel happier. They say it could be environmental, psychological or even biological. I suspect it has something to do with having lived a little, suffered a little and learned a little.

Of course, happiness isn't a constant state of being. Life can be difficult at times and caregiving comes with many challenges. If you're having a hard time locating happy these days, here are some things you can try to bring some joy back into your day to day life. If you suspect that you may be depressed, please consult with your doctor or seek out resources in your community. You owe it to yourself and the person you're caring for.
