More to listening than hearing
We all like to be heard. But how many of us can truly say that we know how to listen? Good listeners apparently focus on what is being said and wait until a person finishes speaking before forming an opinion or a response. Hmmmm....yeah...easier said than done. Come to think of it, have you ever seen a job posting that noted applicants should have exceptional listening skills? We definitely live in a world where talking trumps listening. But here’s the problem – the person we’re talking to only hears about 20% of what we’re saying and they forget about 80% of that within a day. So what kind of listener are you?
