Can we choose to go slow?

A few years ago I read the book In Praise of Slow: How a Worldwide Movement Is Challenging the Cult of Speed. Author Carl Honoré decided to explore the idea after he caught himself speeding through his young son’s bedtime routine.

What Honoré discovered was that there were many people from all walks of life who were choosing to say “no” to life in the fast lane. They were rejecting the idea that if you slowed down you risked becoming road kill. I lent my copy to someone who relished speed above all else. But I never heard a single word about the book after I handed it over. And I didn’t get my book back either. I guess slow isn’t for everyone.

So what’s holding you back from leaving the fast lane? Could you be doing things differently? Could you be letting go of some responsibilities or expectations in order to live a more balanced, healthy life? Are you willing to make changes or sacrifices to make slow possible? Only you can really answer that.
