How quickly a child adjusts to a new school routine is quite individual. And despite a parent’s best efforts there are many variables in the mix that are simply beyond one’s control. You can’t guarantee how well your child will get along with his or her new classmates or if they'll take to their new teacher. 

For parents of children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), getting Michael or Michelle settled and thriving in the school environment can be complex and challenging. But school boards are making progress. This Q and A from Ontario’s Ministry of Education provides an overview of what parents of children with ASD can expect from the public system. And this article from TVOKids covers some of the same material but from a different perspective.
